Since 1427, primo catasto
The corner of Via Ginori and Via Guelfa was the ancient Canto alle Macine, near the old course of the Mugnone stream, where Boccaccio located the house of the naive Calandrino. The historic apothecary’s shop of Canto alle Macine, today called Farmacia Franchi, dates back to the beginning of the 15th century, as the inscription in gold on a black background above the door leading to the back of the shop informs us: “Ancient pharmacy at the Canto alle Macine founded in 1427”. The furniture of the shop, dating back to the early 1900s, consists of a series of shelves with double doors in natural wood, arranged on three walls, and an interesting counter decorated in front by a series of pilasters. Today, the main products sold, in addition to conventional medicines, include homeopathic, herbal, and cosmetic preparations, many of which are specific to skin care and health.
