History

Since 1957

It was the spring of 1957 when the founder arrived in Florence from the countryside seeking a better life. Upon learning that a small dairy/gelateria was for sale, he decided to take the plunge and buy it, despite his relatives’ disapproval, who said, “If it were a good opportunity, the Florentines wouldn’t leave it for you.” But in the end, with a loan and many sacrifices, he managed to purchase the shop. In 1966, the shop was flooded by the waters of the Arno, which destroyed everything. Having already endured the hardships of the Russian campaign, he persevered and began the necessary repairs to restore the gelateria. In 1970, his efforts were rewarded with a gold medal for the Buontalenti gelato, won in a competition among the master gelato makers of Florence. In 1976, his son joined the family business, and today the tradition continues with the son and his wife, as well as the grandchildren, all involved in the shop.
