La Ditta Gradi was founded in 1939 by the Gradi couple, who opened a small mercery in Florence on Via Pagnini, specializing in accessories for tailoring. They focused particularly on the handcrafted production of clothing accessories such as belts, fabrics, and buttons. In 1956, a fire caused by a short circuit destroyed the workshop. This tragedy deeply affected the owners, but with great effort, sacrifice, perseverance, and professionalism, they were able to reopen the business in a short period of time. After the death of Mr. Gradi, his daughter Miria took over the shop’s management, handling not only the accessories but also the creation of the products themselves, from belts to actual jewelry. In 1967, the business moved to Via Cesare Guasti, where Miria continues to work today, creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces made with precious stones and vintage inserts. Miria Gradi is a strong supporter of Florentine craftsmanship and has been awarded the prestigious Fiorino d’Oro and the diploma of Antica Bottega Artigiana
