Hotel Palazzo dal Borgo

District

Santa Maria Novella

History

Since 1952

The hotel building was constructed by the Dal Borgo family, originally from Borgo San Lorenzo, during the first half of the 16th century. The original structure was expanded between 1550 and 1560 by Piero di Jacopo Dal Borgo in honor of Cosimo de’ Medici, as evidenced by the marble bust above the entrance. On the façade, part of the frescoes depicting the life of the Grand Duke can be seen, while additional frescoes can be found inside, on the first and second floors. In the 20th century, the building was transformed into a hotel. Further restorations were carried out in 1943, with the latest renovation taking place in 1966 following the damage the palace sustained during the flood. The hotel is furnished in Renaissance style and features an inner courtyard with a garden.
