History

Since 1948, Settembre

Il Civaiolo was founded in 1948 when Alfredo Poggesi, together with his wife Dina, decided to open a shop to sell items such as bed warmers, oil lamps, pots and pans of earthenware, chickpeas, beans, and hay and fodder for the horses that pulled the majestic carriages driven by the Florentine coachmen. The old shop became a landmark in central Florence for finding household objects and especially “grain legumes”: fresh harvest dried seeds and legumes. Over time, the shop became a real bazaar and today, with the same passion as his parents, it is Alfredo and Dina’s son Stefano Poggesi, together with his wife Silvia, who run the historic business. They offer loyal customers more than 5,000 items including: household items, art supplies, hardware, tools for garden care, haberdashery, wood as well as a wide assortment of spices, herbs, rice, flours, and grain legumes that are always of a refined quality, such as Sorana beans and Val d’Arno zolfini.
