Since 1955

Specialising in the restoration and hand-binding of ancient and modern books, the Balsimelli firm has been operating in the same premises since 1955, after the entire block was rebuilt following the wartime destruction of 4 August, 1944. All the work is carried out exclusively by hand, on the frames, without the use of machines: the titles, in 24kt gold, are imprinted by hand with movable type. To carry out this work, the equipment from the 1950s is still used: wooden frames for hand stitching, bone folders, the “cesaria” press and guillotine. Precious books, destined for presidents and popes, from prestigious publishing houses, have passed through the workshop.
