The Osteria Nuvoli is located in the heart of Florence’s historic centre, a few steps from the Duomo, in Piazza dell’Olio. The former canteen of the Florentine Archbishopric, the history of this shop dates back more than 200 years, when a nobleman began trading wine from the hills of the city. From the early 1900s until the 1950s, it was managed by a Florentine family and, in 1951, it passed to the Borgioli family who managed it until 1986, when it came under the management of Benito Nuvoli, with his wife and son. The venue has a small intimate space on the street level, where they serve crostini, sandwiches, wine, boiled eggs – an old tradition of wine bars – but also typical first courses such as ribollita, ravioli, and second courses such as tripe, lampredotto, and porchetta with roast potatoes. In 1991 the Nuvoli family created two small rooms with tables and benches – 54 seats – in the original cellars from 1100. Here, from 8 in the morning to 9 in the evening, you can eat and drink something. An “old wine merchant” where you can pass by for a snack or sit down.
