The business was founded in 1896 by Ettore Papini as an artisan firm specialising in leather goods, book bindings, pencil cases, and accessories for writing desks, the processing of which required a large assortment of bronze punches, hand engraved, for gold leaf decorations. In 1909, production was extended to include handbags, suitcases, and briefcases, which were exported all over the world. Papini was recognised several times at many international fairs and exhibitions between 1910 and 1932, and, in 1937, he received the Master Craftsman’s diploma. The destruction of the bridges in 1944, the flood of 1966, and the bomb at Uffizi in 1993 damaged the shop; despite this, the interiors still retain their original furnishings. The fourth generation of the family still makes exclusive leather products.
