History

Since 1960

The Briganti family restaurant/trattoria was inaugurated on October 20, 1960, at Piazza Giorgini 12/r, and has been continuously managed by the same family in the same location ever since. The business was opened by Gaetano Briganti and his wife Lorenzina, followed by the second generation, their sons Lido and Lionello (originally with two other brothers, now retired), and now the third generation, particularly Leonardo Briganti, Lionello’s son. This family-run establishment has deep roots in the Rifredi district, particularly the Montughi and Piazza Leopoldo areas, but over time, it has become a well-known destination for high-quality Tuscan cuisine at affordable prices across the city.

The clientele, often familiar with one another, has remained loyal over the years, and it’s common for the pleasure of dining at the Briganti family restaurant to be passed down from generation to generation. A tangible demonstration of the great affection for this place came in June 2010, when the Briganti family organized a large celebration in Piazza Giorgini to mark the 50th anniversary of the restaurant’s opening. Thousands of people gathered in the square, enjoying free samples of the restaurant’s cuisine during a long day, which culminated in the presentation of a commemorative plaque from then-Mayor Matteo Renzi on behalf of the City Administration, which now proudly hangs in the restaurant.

In September 2010, journalist Giovanni Bogani of La Nazione wrote a small book titled Briganti – Una Storia Vera (Edizioni Edimond), which, thanks to two interviews with Lido and Lionello Briganti, reconstructs the history of this trattoria and the unique world it has represented and continues to represent.
