Since 1946
During the Second World War, Roberto Stavini decided to start his own business, opening in 1940 a store selling motorcycle parts and accessories in Piazza Ognissanti, in the space now housing the French bookstore. This marked the founding of the Stavini Company. With the arrival of the Allied troops and the liberation of Florence, Stavini expanded his business by acquiring many parts from American military motorcycles.
Even after the war, thanks to the entrepreneurial skills and forward-thinking decisions of its founder, the Stavini Company continued to thrive. Roberto Stavini was also a great sports enthusiast: he organized the Circuito delle Cascine, an important car and motorcycle race, created the Florence Art and Sports Exhibition, was a member of the Board of Directors of the local Panathlon Club, collaborated with the sports editorial team of La Nazione newspaper, and was a board member of the Azzurri d’Italia Association. In the 1950s, he formed a close friendship with the legendary cyclist Gino Bartali, with whom he created the famous Moto Bartali, which became a great success.
In 1959, as the business grew, the Stavini Company moved from its historic premises in Piazza Ognissanti to larger ones (1,000 sqm) in Viale Fratelli Rosselli, which still hosts the company’s headquarters today. The new headquarters would be severely tested by the 1966 flood, which destroyed over 70% of the space. However, thanks to great determination and the admirable help of his collaborators, the business resumed operations just a few weeks after the closure.
In November 1970, Roberto Stavini tragically passed away at the age of 59. His wife and three daughters, however, decided to continue the work that Roberto had started with dedication and love. Today, the company is still managed by the Stavini family, with the competent cooperation of 14 collaborators, some new and others who have been with the company for over 35 years.
