History
Since 11 dicembre 1948
On December 1st, 1948, Guido, Vittoria, and their children Silvano and Silvana opened this trattoria, which was named “La Grotta” due to the fact that the main dining room is located in a basement. Since then, at “La Grotta,” you could enjoy traditional Tuscan dishes. Initially, the clientele was mainly composed of the many workers from the nearby Historic Center (shopkeepers, porters, laborers, etc.), as well as many “idle daydreamers” who gathered in this trattoria for its welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere, which has always distinguished the place.
From the outset, the establishment became a true trattoria, offering table service with drinks and hot dishes carefully prepared in the family-style kitchen located in the back of the shop. After Guido’s passing in 1965, the restaurant passed to his son Silvano, who continued the family tradition. Today, it is his grandson Riccardo who runs the restaurant with renewed passion and professionalism. The closely arranged tables allow guests to dine in close proximity, socialize, and enjoy good wines and classic Tuscan dishes. “La Grotta” has preserved its original characteristics over time, with furnishings in perfect Florentine style.
