History

Since 1903

On the corner of Borgo San Jacopo and Via dello Sprone, where silk was worked during the Medici period, Mr Giuliani opened his fruit and vegetable shop in 1910 in a building erected in 1500. This business has survived to the present day and has been managed by the Vettori family since 1968, the year in which it took over from the previous management. The specialties sold by this greengrocer are the best fruits and vegetables and Tuscan products, including a wide assortment of lettuce and radicchio. Inside the shop, on the wall, there are still original “hooks” from the early twentieth century, where the goods were once displayed. Above the shop there is a large terrace; people say it was built by order of Caterina de’ Medici, who, looking out from there, could see her betrothed, who lived in the palace overlooking the balcony. Right next to the shop, there is a famous fountain designed by Buontalenti, a destination for many tourists.
