“Burdèl” was the playful nickname once used for pig traders, all of whom were from Romagna. One of these, a man named Barducci, founded the wine shop called “Da Burde” in 1901, which was then located on Via di Peretola. The definitive move to the current location on Via Pistoiese took place in 1927. Barducci then married into the Gori family and the trattoria was born. Barducci’s grandson Turiddo took over the Burde, inheriting the nickname. With his wife Irene, who arrived in Florence at a very young age from Valdinievole, her birthplace, he was a living monument to his vocation as innkeeper for over sixty years. Today his sons Giuliano, Fabrizio, and Mario run this ancient shop, where, originally, they sold everything, including whips and fodder for horses, and where they still sell culinary specialties, such as soprassata or finocchiona and offer true Florentine home cooking.
