History

Since 28 ottobre 1817

The first documented records of this pharmacy, located on what was then the Royal Pistoiese Road, date back to 1817, when medical inspectors began visiting under the command of the Podestà (State Archives of Florence). However, its existence undoubtedly predates this date. The pharmacy has been located in the same premises, as indicated by the stone portal dated 1829. Since 1837, it has been owned by the current family, initially as Cialdini, then Paoletti, and later Danti, with the original marble plaques still preserved. During the same period, the pharmacy also obtained a license for a drugstore, allowing it to sell salt, sugar, coffee, snuff tobacco, and colonial goods. From 1894 to 1933, the owner was the chemist Luigi Paoletti, whose records, notebooks, and containers, some still holding original substances, are preserved. In 1948, Pierluigi Danti became the owner, restoring the premises first from the damage caused by World War II and later from the devastating 1966 flood. Today, his children, Donata and Luigi, have co-managed the pharmacy since 1994, preserving, due to the events, only some of the original furniture, such as the vitrines with columns and golden capitals dating back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries, original vases, containers, and glassware, as well as valuable manuscripts such as “I Discorsi del Mattioli” and a copy of the “Antico Ricettario Fiorentino.” The centuries-old tradition of professionalism, compounding for human and veterinary use, and phytotherapy blends with the more current sales sectors, including homeopathy, specialized dietetics, and qualified dermocosmetics.
