Gelateria Alpina

History

Since 1929

In 1929, Virgilio Arnoldo founded Gelateria Alpina, one of the first artisan ice cream shops in Florence. In 1967, Giovanni De Rocco, Virgilio’s grandson, took over the shop and has continued to manage it with his family. In 1972, the shop was expanded with a new laboratory at the back for ice cream production. The technique of crafting artisan ice cream follows the tradition of gelato makers from Val di Zoldo (BL), where both Giovanni and Virgilio were born. In 1996, Gelateria Alpina was also transformed into a café after a renovation.
