Since 1926
In 1926, Giuseppe Cavini, originally from Rome, founded Gelateria Cavini in Via Boccaccio at the corner of Via Borghini, quickly gaining notoriety and fame. Since Giuseppe was from Rome, as a tribute to his city, the exact name of the Gelateria was “Gelateria Roma Cavini,” with the wolf symbol as its emblem. In 1937, after Villa Cintolesi was demolished in Piazza delle Cure, a new building was constructed where the gelateria moved to its current location, changing its name to “Gelateria Cavini.” In 1940, after years of great success, the war broke out, and difficulties arose that marked the gradual slowdown of the business, mainly due to the lack of raw materials and staff. They even adapted by selling “polenta,” as was common at the time. Over the years, Giuseppe Cavini passed away in 1962, followed by his wife Vittoria, leaving their children and a son-in-law to continue the business. On May 13, 1969, the Fedi family, with Giorgio and Mis and their young daughters Susanna and Liliana, took over. The gelateria’s reputation grew, and after training at the counter, Susanna and Liliana began working in the laboratory and with the gelato. In 1987, about 20 years after acquiring the gelateria, some signs of structural aging appeared, and a major renovation of the shop was decided. In 1987 and 1990, the two daughters, Susanna and Liliana, married Michele and Claudio, who then joined the team and the business. As time passed, Giorgio and Mis, having reached retirement age, decided to slow down and pass the torch. In 1992, Michele and Susanna, along with Claudio and Liliana and their eight children—Chiara, Benedetta, Letizia, Marta, Sara, Lorenzo, Caterina, and Lucia—continued to manage the business. The gelateria maintained its importance and, if anything, gained new prestige thanks to the newcomers’ dynamism, enthusiasm, new projects, and ideas. The Fedi family, however, from their well-earned retreat, continues to keep a watchful eye.
