Hotel Bretagna

History

Since 1920

Numerous renovations have been carried out on the elegant building, crowned by a large loggia, since 1427. In 1818, with the dying out of the Gianfigliazzi family, the Palace was converted into a hotel under the name “Delle Quattro Nazioni”, later renamed Hotel Bretagna. Louis Bonaparte King of Holland stayed there for long periods and became its owner in 1828. Later the residence was purchased by Ranieri Lamporecchi, a famous Florentine lawyer. In 1867, the Belgian Baron Adrian Van Der Linden Hoogworst became the owner. The baron was married to the Florentine noblewoman Aurora Guadagni, who made the palace even more beautiful and sumptuous, transforming it into a refined residence of French taste. When the Hoogworst family died, the palace was bought by the Cesaroni Venanzi family and later, in 1920, by the lawyer Aldemiro Campodonico, a politician and journalist. Today, the granddaughter Maria, Baroness De Hagenauer, in collaboration with the company Hotel Bretagna srl, helps to preserve its ancient splendour.
