Since 1952

The hotel business began in the early 1900s. It remained in a traditional style until the second half of the 1960s when, following the flood, a gradual but radical renovation was undertaken. This renovation not only earned the hotel its fourth star but also transformed the Croce di Malta into one of the most exclusive accommodations in Florence. Despite the innovative architectural lines and modern techniques, the spaces have preserved many elements from the past. New lighting highlights Renaissance doors, bas-reliefs, sculptures, coffered ceilings, arches, and columns. Since the early 1970s, a new approach to space utilization has led to the creation of cultural and social events, from exclusive fashion shows by the pool to art exhibitions. To testify to this cultural vocation, signatures from artists such as Renato Guttuso, Rufino Tamayo, and Robert Rauschenberg can be found on the walls. The changes at the Croce di Malta have followed the evolution of the city, society, customs, and progress. This is why it continues to renew itself each year, embracing technology while respecting its own identity.
