Since 1960

In 1960, Piero Serni decided to take over the “Il Gatto Nero” restaurant, becoming one of the first entrepreneurs to open a pizzeria in Florence. “La Bussola” was already well-known at the time for staying open until late at night, offering both tourists and loyal customers a pleasant place to relax. During the 1960s and 1970s, many international stars, including actors, singers, and world-famous artists, became regular customers of La Bussola after their performances in the city’s theaters, entertaining a large number of guests until the early hours of the morning in a warm and festive atmosphere. Today, the business is managed by the second generation of the Cresci family, who continue the tradition with the same passion and spirit as before, serving classic Italian and traditional Tuscan dishes.

For over 60 years, the true highlight of La Bussola has been its exquisite Tuscan pizzas, prepared with simple and genuine ingredients, best enjoyed with a fine selection of craft beers, as well as the fresh seafood dishes paired with a glass of premium white wine.

The establishment began in January 1960 when Piero Serni took over “Il Gatto Nero” and transformed it into one of the very first pizzerias in Florence. The clientele consisted largely of show business personalities who made the late-night atmosphere come alive. Numerous photographs from that era, displayed inside the restaurant, can still be admired today, all from the Locchi archive in Florence. Today, the restaurant is run by the second generation of the Cresci family, who, while renewing the interiors, have preserved its historical features intact.
