History
Since 1830
The business was established in 1830 as a manufacturer and seller of evening bags, walking sticks, and fans. It later became the official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy, as evidenced by the Savoy coat of arms that distinguishes the store. As a result, the shop became a point of reference for the European aristocracy who stayed in and frequented Florence.
In the early 1900s, the Ottino family took over the management of the store, and after World War II, Ottino expanded into the production of leather accessories, broadening its clientele to include the wealthy merchant and entrepreneurial bourgeoisie.
In 1966, Florence was struck by the disastrous flood, and the store, located on Via de’ Cerretani, suffered severe damage. In this event, not only the goods were destroyed, but also the historical archive. In the following years, Ottino rebounded and expanded its business, exporting to many countries, particularly Japan.
As the city transformed, the company moved from its historic location in 2000 to a more suitable space on Via Porta Rossa, better aligned with its products and clientele.
