The Nencioni family has been present on Via Pietrapiana with their “shop” since March 1950. The business began with the production and sale of bread, pastries, and also fresh pasta made “in front of the customers,” when the current Piazza dei Ciompi hosted the daily fruit and vegetable market. The furnishings were simple and functional, yet certainly refined for the time. A long Carrara marble counter for sales, a drawer cabinet for pasta, and a large window facing the street were the main features with which the shop was born. In 1957, the business expanded. In addition to the traditional production and sale of bread, it added a fine pastry workshop with a bar, beverage service, and also the production of homemade ice cream. After the 1966 flood, the shop suffered significant damage. However, it still celebrated its 50th anniversary in March 2000. Today, the Nencioni family has decided to renovate the shop’s furnishings while simultaneously enhancing some of its key features, such as the vaulted ceiling and the ancient support columns, in order to give the street and the city back a small piece of its history.
