History

Since 1939

The shop opened in 1938, initially selling polenta and castagnaccio (chestnut cake). A year later, it began producing artisanal gelato, quickly becoming one of the most renowned spots in Florence for its gelato and, in particular, its “semifreddi” (semi-frozen desserts). In 1950, the shop underwent significant internal renovations, including the lining of the walls with onyx slabs, which still adorn the premises today. Using the same onyx, the mosaic master Giovanni Fiaschi created a clock that became the shop’s symbol. In 1991, the business was taken over by Mrs. Paola and her daughters Cecilia and Valentina, who rediscovered old and original recipes and began producing a variety of flavors, focusing particularly on the quality of the ingredients. Among the most famous offerings are the gelato flavors of cooked cream, hazelnut, pistachio, Sicilian cassata, and granita. In 2002, the shop was renovated while preserving the original onyx wall coverings and the clock, and the new decorative mosaics in marble were added to further enhance the space.
