History

Since 1880, così dal 1910

The Restaurant “Buca Lapi” opened in the cellars of the ancient Palazzo Antinori in 1879 as a trattoria with wine bar. At the time, it was the Antinori family itself who appointed Orazio Lapi as innkeeper of their wine bar, which, due to its characteristic underground environment, was called a “Buca”. Over the years, it was transformed into a restaurant under the management of the same family. In 1995, it passed, without losing its characteristics, to the current manager Luciano Ghinassi, great chef and already an employee of the restaurant in the 60s. The property was built between 1461 and 1469, according, it seems, to a design by Giuliano da Maiano and belonged to important Florentine families such as the Boni and Martelli. In 1506, the palace passed to the Antinori family who added the stables, the lemon grove, and the back garden.
