History

Since 1886

Buca Mario rises in a 16th century cellar. The “buche” in Florence were the typical cellars located under significant, historic palaces, often belonging to noble families. They served as a storage place for salted and sliced meats, and, above all, were used for the precious storing of wine. The restaurant was founded back in 1886 by Mario Corsini who decided to set up a typical Tuscan wine bar in the cellars of Palazzo Niccolini. With the help of his wife, they began to serve ancient Florentine soups such as “pappa al pomodoro” and the classic “ribollita”, serving delicious wines from the Tuscan hills. Such was its success with Florentines and foreigners that, as time passed, it became a real restaurant.
