History

Since 1882

Since 1997, the restaurant has been run by the Frija brothers, who offer original cooking made of ancient flavours mixed with innovative dishes.Founded in 1882, the restaurant was originally very modest and then, during the 1920s, it was transformed through the skilful restoration of skilled artists of the time (painters, carvers, and smiths) into one of the most characteristic and artistic “Buche” of Florence (typical cellars), once the sacristy of the nearby Baptistery. The place was the secret initiation location for the Rosicrucians, cradle of libertarian thought; the wrought iron grating with the Rosicrucian coat of arms, which can still be seen in one of the rooms, is testament to this. Later, the “Buca” became the meeting place for the after-theatre crowd, frequented by many famous actors.
