Trattoria Antico Fattore

History

Since 1865

In the trattoria, opened by Sor Giulio in 1908, typical peasant dishes were served to the farmers who gathered in the market in Piazza della Signoria to negotiate the sale of their goods. In 1929, the trattoria became the meeting-place for world-famous artists; in fact, painters, sculptors, poets, writers and musicians, including De Chirico, Morandi, Carrà, Libero Andreotti, began to frequent the place, usually turning up on Wednesday. It is not by chance that, in 1930, the “Premio Antico Fattore” was established in this trattoria, where Italian and foreign writers of great fame were recognised, by the manager Mr Giulio Vannucci (father of Marcello Vannucci, a Florentine writer). With the explosion of the bomb on Via Georgofili on 27 May 1993, the interior walls, which were painted by hand, and the antique furniture were destroyed. Since 1996, Mr Angelo Lucia has been running the trattoria, trying to preserve its old atmosphere.
